7 Financial Tips for International Students

7 Financial Tips for International Students

A transition into college is hard, especially when you are transitioning to a different country. Not only is it an exciting time, but there are a lot of new things to learn about your new home while you study. Below are 7 financial tips designed specifically for University of Iowa International Students to be a reference so you can keep focus on learning and enjoying your college experience abroad.

Currency Exchange

Whether you are buying or selling foreign currency, Hills Bank can help you. We will buy back paper currency and help you get the currency you need for a trip back home.

Hills Bank Wires and SWIFT Code

Incoming wires are free for Hills Bank customers, so consider Hills Bank the next time you send or receive a wire. To complete incoming wires, simply provide the sender with the following information:

  • Routing number
    • 073913755
  • Bank name
    • Hills Bank and Trust Company
      PO Box 160
      Hills, IA 52235
  • Your account number
  • Name and address on your account
  • For incoming International wires include Hills Bank’s SWIFT Code
    • HTRCUS44

Mandarin and Spanish Capable ATMs

Hills Bank has many ATMs throughout Eastern Iowa as well as the University of Iowa campus. We have 25 ATMs located on the University of Iowa campus that are Mandarin and Spanish capable. We welcome you to test them out!

Apple Pay

Payments with Apple Pay can be made at over a million retailers and counting! If you have an iPhone® 6 or newer, Apple Watch, or iPad (Pro, Air 2, mini 4, mini 3) and a Hills Bank account, you’ll be able to use Apple Pay! Simply add your Hills Bank credit or debit card to your Apple Wallet and look for the Apple Pay logo or contactless symbol when you make a purchase. It’s an easy and secure way to pay!

Accounts Designed Specifically for University of Iowa Students

As the only financial institution authorized by the University of Iowa for campus banking, we offer two convenient bank locations on campus and a 3rd location across the street from campus in downtown Iowa City. We have a UI Student Checking account that is designed with you in mind! You can even personalize your debit card with a photo of your family, friends, or pets!

Link your University of Iowa One® Card to your Bank Account.

You can link your Iowa One® Card to your UI Student Checking or UI Employee Advantage account to use your card at ATMs and even some retail locations. It works great for when you first arrive on campus but haven’t received your debit card yet. Debit cards usually take 5-7 business days to come in the mail after you open your account, so linking up your Iowa One® Card to your UI Student Checking account is a great way to access funds.
